For nearly 120 years, Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHMS) – and St. Nicholas School and Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy before it – has stood as a beacon of hope on Flora Avenue, welcoming children escaping war, poverty, and hardship into a nurturing community rooted in faith, culture, and compassion. Today, as the needs grow, we are reaching out to you – our alumni and supporters – to help ensure this light never dims.

We are proud to launch the IHMS Alumni Bursary Challenge, a special fundraising initiative inviting alumni who are celebrating their 10th, 25th, 35th, 50th, and 60th+ anniversaries to come together to raise $10,000 for the school’s vital Bursary Program. And thanks to a generous matching gift from BCU Wealth Management and BCU Foundation, every dollar donated will be matched up to $10,000 – helping twice as many families experience a values-based education at IHMS. More than one in three IHMS families rely on financial support so their children can attend IHMS. Since the war in Ukraine escalated, over 100 newcomer children have found a safe haven in our classrooms – children who now call Winnipeg home. With your support, we can continue welcoming these young learners and offering them not only an education, but a sense of belonging.

As Manitoba’s only Ukrainian Catholic K-8 school, IHMS receives just 50% of the per-student funding that public schools do. Your gift supports tuition assistance, after-school care, school supplies, EAL resources, and more – making a real, lasting difference.
